Over the Counter Medication & Fitness to Dive

Diving Safety Memorandum 09/18 has just been released and provides information on the impact Over The Counter (OTC) medication can have on fitness to dive.  In particular there are issues with Sidenafil (Viagra) and other drugs, which cause a similar effect as PDE-5-inhibitors.  These have been shown to promote the onset and severity of neurological decompression illness (DCI).

Ex Dive Eagle 2018 – Instructors and Safety Divers Required

Ex Dive Eagle is the delivery of a 1 week Ocean Diver and 1 week Sports Diver course based out of RAF St Mawgan Cornwall for 6 students on each week.

We require one instructor ESADS/BSADS and three rescue divers (minimum SD) for the Ocean Diver course on 9-14th September 2018 and one instructor ESADS/BSADS for the Sports Diver course on 16-21st September 2018.

Volunteers would preferably be RAF personnel, however all volunteers are welcome. This is a chance to test the feasibility of UK diver training delivery from St Mawgan with a view for further delivery in 2019. This will hopefully grow our numbers within the association and branches for the future.

All enquires should be made to Sgt Kev Ford at – [email protected]

Entrance to Devonport

The main  entrance to Devonport Naval Base (aka Camels Head Gate) will be closed from 13 Jul 18 for approximately 9 months.  This will allow improvements to security and safety to be completed but will have a significant impact on those attempting to gain entry to the base, including JSSADC.

All visitors to JSSADC should familiarise themselves with Naval Base Commander’s Memorandum (NBCM) No 61/18 to ensure minimal disruption.  A copy of this can be acquired by contacting JSSADC Cse Clerk.  Appropriate extracts will also be included in Joining Instructions for students and guest divers.
